Honey Bee Venom May Help Design New Treatments to Alleviate Muscular Dystrophy, Depression and Dementia

Scientists researching a toxin extracted from the venom of the honey bee have used this to inform the design of new treatments to alleviate the symptoms of conditions such as muscular dystrophy, depression and dementia.

Apamin, a natural peptide toxin found in bee venom, is known for its ability to block a type of ion channel that enables a high-speed and selective flow of potassium ions out of nerves. The blocking of these channels in brain causes nerves to become hyperexcitable, producing improved learning that has implications for the treatment of dementia and depression. In addition, injection of apamin improves the symptoms experienced by sufferers of myotonic muscular dystrophy (MD).

Until now, the exact mechanism by which apamin acts was poorly understood. In a study published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry, two teams from the University of Bristol and the University of Liege in Belgium describe the results of their joint work on these K_Ca2 potassium ion channels, also called SK channels.

Using computer models and a genetic approach, the researchers were able to pinpoint exactly where apamin binds to block the channel. To block ion channels, most molecules act as a plug at their external mouth. Perhaps surprisingly, the researchers have discovered that apamin binds away from the channel pore, and causes the shape of the channel to change through an 'allosteric' mechanism, resulting in block

This discovery could accelerate research into the design of new SK channel blockers which could imitate the action of apamin, to target SK channels in neural and muscular conditions such as dementia, depression or MD.

Professor Neil Marrion, from the University of Bristol's Physiology & Pharmacology department, said: "Drug design depends on knowing the target. Our findings have provided a new approach to designing a therapeutic agent that could help with the treatment of a number of conditions."

Professor Vincent Seutin, from the GIGA Neurosciences at the University of Liège, commented on the study: "I am very enthusiastic about the results of our study and I believe that, with the help of this piece of information, the targeting of these channels for the development of future drugs has been made easier."

The casinos can’t change the odds of getting a particular winning hand in video poker. However, they can change the payoff amount for winning hands, and this is what they do to create their edge over players.

When you were in high school and the teacher wanted to check how well you and your classmates were learning the subject matter, what did she do? She’d give you a “pop quiz.” Well, this month I decided to give you a pop quiz on video poker. Even if you consider yourself to be an experienced player, I bet you’re going to learn a few things here that you didn’t know about the game.

These are all True/False questions. Write down your answers and then check them against the list of correct answers that follows the quiz. Give yourself 5 points for each correct answer; a score of 60 or higher gets you an “A.”

Now let’s get started—are these statements True or False?

1. You should always play the maximum number of coins when you play video poker.
2. If your initial five-card hand has a four of diamonds and you discard it, it’s possible for you to get a four of diamonds on the draw.
3. Casinos can change the odds of winning, just like they do on the slot machines.
4. If you see 25 jacks-or-better machines in a casino, you can assume they all have the same payback.
5. It’s impossible to get over a 100 percent return when you play video poker.
6. Video poker payoff odds are “odds-for-1″ rather than “odds-to-1.”

Answers:

1. True. The reason is because the royal flush payout per coin played is much higher when you play max coins than it is if you play less-than-max coins. Your overall return if you played less than max coins in, say, a jacks-or-better game, would drop by about 1.3 percent. If you can’t afford to play max coins, then you should drop to a lower denomination machine.
2. False. A standard 52-card deck is used to play video poker, and every card must have an equal chance of being dealt. If you discarded a four of diamonds, you should never be dealt another four of a diamonds (because there is only one four of a diamonds in a deck of cards). You could draw another four, but it would be of a different suit.

For example, if you hold a four-card straight or a four-card flush, and in the same hand you have a four-card royal flush, the play that has the higher expected value (EV) is to hold the four-card royal flush and draw one card (i.e., you should not hold the winning straight or flush in this case).
9. False. Besides the four-card royal flush, any four-card straight flush has a higher EV than a high pair and should be held over a high pair.
10. False. You hold a four-card flush over a low pair, but you hold the latter over a four-card straight (with one exception: you hold 10JQK over a low pair).
11. False. You would hold a four-card inside straight if it contains at least three high cards (assuming you had nothing better in your hand).

California Casino’s new Blackjack Game Quite popular

Pala Casino Spa & Resort in California added a new blackjack game called Blackjack Switch just last week. The new game has become quite popular at the casino as it offers players a new way to play blackjack. Players are allowed to switch cards to make the best possible blackjack hand.

Mike Crenshaw the vice president of casino operations at Pala commented that the game has become really popular with the casinos blackjack players and several players have made the switch to the new game.

Players start the game with equal bets on two betting positions. The dealer deals two separate blackjack hands and the player then has the option to play the hands as they were dealt or switch the second card from each hand. Switching can only happen after the dealer has checked for a natural blackjack. The dealer will then proceed with the game by following the house rules for the game.

الماسونية

للمؤرخين في منشأ هذه الجمعية أقوال متضاربة فمن قال بحداثتها فهي على قوله لم تدرك ما وراء القرن الثامن عشر بعد الميلاد ومنهم من سار بها إلى ما وراء ذلك فقال : إنها نشأت من جمعية الصليب الوردي التي تأسست عام 1616 بعد الميلاد . ومنهم من امتد بها إلى الحروب الصليبية وآخرون لاحقوها حتى انتهت بهم إلى العهد اليوناني قبل الميلاد, وهناك من أكد أنها نشأت وترعرت في هيكل سليمان لكن أكثر الأقوال شيوعاً أن الماسونية تعود إلى عام 43م أيام حكم هيرودس أكريبا الثاني (هيرودس الإبن) وقد أطلق عليها اسم الجمعية الخفية أو القوة الخفية حيث نادى لتشكيلها كل من حيرام آبيود صاحب الفكرة والملك هيرودس أكريبا ومؤاب لافي وكان هدفها مقاومة دعوة المسيح والديانة الجديدة.

من أين جاء الماسون بإسمهم هذا؟
كما إختلف مؤرخوا الماسونية ومنظروها في تاريخ إنشائها فقد اختلفوا أيضاً في المصادر التي استقوا منها هذا الاسم إلا أن الشائع أن ماسون أو فرمسون كلمة فرنسية مؤلفة من لفظتين هما فران ومعناها الصادق وماسون ومعناها الباني وقد مزجوا هاتين اللفظتين وأطلقوا عليها على مجموعها (البنائين الصادقين). وقد اتخذت الماسونية اسماء متنوعة ومختلفة باختلاف الأزمنة والأماكن التي ظهرت وتكونت فيها كجماعة المتنورين في ألمانيا وجماعة الفحامين في إيطاليا .

أقسام الماسونية :
1- الماسونية العامة الرمزية: تتظاهرأنها جمعية خيرية غايتها الارتقاء بالفكر البشري وممارسة أعمال الخير ومبدؤها حرية الضمير ولها 33 درجة .
2-الماسونية الملوكية أو العقد الملوكي : وهي مرتبطة بالاولى بطريقة خفية لا يعلمها الا أعضاؤها.
3-الماسونية الكونية الحمراء : وهي الشيوعية وهذه الفرقة غير معروفة إلا من قسم قليل منهم.

درجات الماسونية العامة الرمزية :
إن كل من يصبح عضواً في الماسونية يبدأ بصعود الرتب والدرجات الموجودة ضمن نظامها وذلك حسب نشاطه ومدى إخلاصه وهذه الدرجات تصنف على الشكل التالي :
من الدرجة 1 وحتى الدرجة 7 هي درجات بدائية أما الدرجات الأخرى فهي على الشكل التالي :
1- الهادي من الدرجة 1 وحتى 7
2- الحكيم من7 وحتى 9
3- الظافر إلى الدرجة 12
4- العالم إلى الدرجة 15
5- الرشيد إلى الدرجة 18
6- الواعظ إلى الدرجة 21
7- المعلم الصغير إلى الدرجة 24
8- الفيلسوف الصغير إلى الدرجة 27
9- القدوس إلى الدرجة 30
10- الصليب الدرجة 31
11- المهندس الكبير الدرجة 32
12- الميت الحي الدرجة 33

ملاحظة : بين كل تسمية وأخرى بعض الدرجات التي تقسم إلى مراتب. حيث لدينا :

الدرجات الكمالية من الدرجة 4 الى الدرجة 14
- في الدرجة الرابعة يتقدم الطالب في العلم والفلسفة ويتعمق بالدرجات الأربع الأولى
- في الدرجة الرابعة عشرة تدرس الدرجات من الخامسة حتى الرابعة عشرة

الدرجات المقامية من الدرجة 15 الى الدرجة 18
- درس فلسفات الاحساسات والديانات وجميع الدرجات المقامية من الدرجة الخامسة عشرة حتى الدرجة الثامنة عشرة

الدرجات الفلسفية من الدرجة 19 الى 30
- درس فلسفات الحركات والمجتمع وجميع الدرجات الفلسفية من الدرجة التاسعة عشرة حتى الدرجة الثلاثين .

الدرجات الإدارية من الدرجة 31 الى الدرجة 33
- المحكمة في الدرجة الواحدة والثلاثين
-المجمع في الدرجة الثانية والثلاثين
- المجلس السامي للدرجة الثالثة والثلاثين وهو للمفتشين العظماء

يتم قبول العضو الجديد في جو مرعب مخيف وغريب حيث يقاد إلى الرئيس معصوب العينين وما أن يؤدي يمين حفظ السر ويفتح عينيه حتى يفاجأ بسيوف مسلولة حول عنقه ومن حوله غرفة شبه مظلمة فيها جماجم بشرية وأدوات هندسية مصنوعة من خشب وكل ذلك لبث المهابة في نفس العضو الجديد وعليه أن يحلف القسم أو اليمين وهذا اليمين قسمين :

الأول : وله طابع ديني بحت وهو:
أنا.......ابن.......أقسم بالله والتوراة وبشرفي بأنني قبلت ودخلت في جمعية القوة الخفية وصرت عضواً من أعضائها لا أخون إخواني أعضاءها بشيء يضر شخصيتهم ولا بشيء من مقررات الجمعية وبأنني أتبع مبادئها وأتمم جميع ما يقرره أعضاؤها العاملون وكل ما أوتمر به لدى رؤسائي بكل دقة وطاعة وضبط وبكل غيرة وأمانة وبأنني أجتهد بتوفير عدد أعضائها ولا أبوح بأي سر من أسرارها لأي كان إن خنت بيميني وثبتت خيانتي فليقطع عنقي أو ينزل بي الموت بأي طريقة كانت.

الثاني : له طابع سياسي بحت وهو :
أقسم بمهندس الكون الأعظم أن لا أخون عهد الجمعية وأسرارها لا بالإشارة ولا بالكلام ولا بالحركات وأن لا أكتب شيئاً عنها ولا أنشر بالطبع أو الحفر أو التصوير وأقبل إن حنثت بقسمي هذا بأن تحرق شفتاي بحديد محمى وأن تقطع يداي ويحز عنقي حتى الموت وتعلق جثتي في المحفل لتكون عبرة لغيري من الماسون فيتعظوا بها ثم تحرق جثتي ويذر رمادها في الهواء لئلا يبق أثر من جنايتي .

المحافل الماسونية , رموزها ودلالاتها :
كثيراً ما يكون المكان أو الغرفة التي يجتمع فيها الماسون موشاة بالأقمشة الزرقاء, أما من جهة المشرق فتتصدرها كرسي الرئاسة تتقدمها طاولة عليها مطرقة وقد استوى على الكرسي رجل يسمى رئيس الهيكل, وعلقت على جدرانها رموز عديدة كالمثلث والزاوية والبيكار والميزان وخيط الشاقول وبعض النقوش الرمزية وهذه كلها ترمز إلى المهندس الأعظم الذي يعترفون له بشيء من الهيمنة والشمولية على الكون , ولكن من هو هذا المهندس العظيم للكون الذي لم تعلم ولو على وجه تقريبي لا بدايته ولا نهايته وليس هو الله، وهذا ما قاله ويسهوب منشىء الماسونية الألمانية الذي صرح : (إن كل شيء هو مادي, فالله والعالم ليس إلا شيئاً واحداً, وجميع الديانات هي خيالية غير ثابتة وقد اخترعها رجال ذو مطامع)
وأما الهيكل فقد انتصب في مقدمته عمودان ازدانا بالحلي كتب على إحداهما حرف B وعلى الآخر J . وهذان الحرفان لهما عند الماسون رموز وتفاسير . فقد ورد على لسان راغون الماسوني تفسير هذين الرمزين على الشكل التالي: ( إن عمودي B (بوعز) وJ (جاكين) يدلان على المبدأين المتضاين يريد ماني مبدأ النور والظلمة, الخير والشر, وعلى مبدأي الحياة النسلية ) .

الإشارات:
الإشارة هي واحدة من عناصر التعارف الأكثر شيوعاً واستعمالاً بين الماسون، إضافة الى كلمات ولمسات خاصة بكل مستوى. فكل درجة لها إشارات خاصة تبرز هويتها من خلالها ولكن في أغلب الحالات تكون الإشارات في الدرجات الواحدة متقاربة. وهكذا تتنوع الإشارات بين درجة وأخرى، لكن المبدأ أن إشارات التعارف الخاصة أمر معتمد عند الماسون.
أما النور LUMIERE :فله مكانة عند الماسون في طقوسهم ويرجعون ذلك الى المُسارّة، وهي احتفالات كانت تقام لإبلاغ عضو جديد على بعض أسرار الديانات القديمة والجمعيات السرية.فعندما ينتسب عضو جديد الى الماسونية ويدخلونه المحفل يكون معصوب العينين، ونزع العصابة عن عينيه يعني أنه قد مُنح النور.

الأديان في نظر الماسونية :
الأديان في نظر الماسون خرافات وهرطقات ولابد للماسوني أن يتنكر ويجحد لما يسمونه بالخرافات الدينية والقيم الأخلاقية حتى يتشرف باكتساب الروح الماسونية الحقة . ولنقرأ ما ورد بهذا الشأن على لسان أحد الماسونيين المسمى كوليفين وهو أحد أعضاء محفل منفيس في لندن قوله:
إننا إن سمحنا لمسلم أو مسيحي بالدخول في أحد هياكل الماسونية , فإنما ذلك يتم على شرط أن الداخل يتجرد من أضاليله السابقة, ويجحد خرافاته وأوهامه التي خدع بها في شبابه . فيصير رجلاً جديداً فلو بقي على ما كان عليه لا يستفيد البتة من محافلنا الماسونية.

موقف الماسونية من المسيحية :
لقد ذاقت المسيحية على أيديهم المحن والويلات وخاصة المذهب الكاثوليكي وقد صرح بهذا العداء عدداً لابأس فيه من مفكري الماسونية ومنظريها . فقال واحد منهم : ( إن عدوتنا هي الكنيسة الرومانية الكاثوليكية البابوية المعصومة مع نظامها الشديد الوثاق فهي عدونا الأزلي فإن شئنا أن نكون ماسونيين حقيقين وفضلاء راغبين في فوز جمعيتنا فعلينا أن نكرر قائلين : نحن ماسون ليس إلا فلا مفر لكم عن هذين الأمرين فإما أن نكون مسيحين وإما ماسونيين فاختاروا ما شئتم)

وعلى هذا فالماسونية أقرب في تنظيمها وتشكيلها إلى التقاء والتفاف جماعة من الناس يعملون في الخفاء وفق تعليمات ومبادىء مرسومة مسبقاً لتنفيذ مخططات وإنجاز مهمات تهدف في الحاصل الأخير إلى هدم وتقويض أركان أي سلطة سواء كانت دينية أو مدنية , لخلق مناخ تتوافر فيه كل الشروط التي من شأنها التعهد بحماية أبناء القوة الخفية , ودفعهم نحو السمو والارتقاء فوق سائر المخلوقات .

فلسفة

وقف بروفيسور أمام تلاميذه..

ومعه بعض

الوسائل التعليمية..

وعندما بدأ الدرس ودون أن يتكلم..

أخرج عبوه زجاجيه كبيره فارغة..

وأخذ يملأها (بكرات الجولف )

ثم سأل التلاميذ ..

هل الزجاجة التي في يده مليئة أم فارغة ؟

فاتفق التلاميذ على أنها مليئة ..

فأخذ صندوقاً صغيرا من الحصى ..

وسكبه داخل الزجاجة ....

ثم رجها بشده حتى تخلخل الحصى ..

في المساحات الفارغة بين كرات الجولف..

ثم سألهم ....؟

إن كانت الزجاجة مليئة ؟

فأتفق التلاميذ مجدداً على أنها كذلك ..

فأخذ بعد ذلك صندوقاً ..

صغيراً من الرمل ..

و سكبه فوق المحتويات في الزجاجة..

وبالطبع فقد ملأ الرمل باقي الفراغات فيها..

و سأل طلابه مره أخرى..

إن كانت الزجاجة مليئة ؟

فردوا بصوت واحد ..

بأنها كذلك .....

أخرج البروفيسور بعدها فنجاناً من القهوة..

و سكب كامل محتواه داخل الزجاجة..

فضحك التلاميذ من فعلته ..

وبعد أن هدأ الضحك ..

شرع البروفيسور في الحديث قائلاً :

الآن أريدكم أن تعرفوا ما هي القصة ..

إن هذه الزجاجة تمثل حياة كل واحد منكم..

وكرات الجولف .. تمثل الأشياء الضرورية في حياتك :

دينك ، قيمك , أخلاقك ، عائلتك , أطفالك ,

صحتك , أصدقائك .

بحيث لو انك فقدت (( كل شيء ))

وبقيت هذه الأشياء فستبقى حياتك ..
مليئة و ثابتة ..

أما الحصى فيمثل الأشياء المهمة في حياتك :

وظيفتك , بيتك , سيارتك ..

وأما الرمل فيمثل بقية الأشياء ..

أو لنقول : الأمور البسيطة و الهامشية..

فلو كنت وضعت الرمل في الزجاجة أولاً ..

فلن يتبقى مكان للحصى أو لكرات الجولف ..

وهذا يسري على حياتك الواقعية كلها ..

فلو صرفت كل وقتك و جهدك على توافه الأمور..

فلن يتبقى مكان للأمور التي تهمك..

لذا فعليك أن تنتبه جيدا و قبل كل شيء للأشياء الضرورية ..

لحياتك و استقرارك..

وأحرص على الانتباه لعلاقتك بدينك ..
وتمسكك بقيمك و مبادئك و أخلاقك ..

أمرح مع عائلتك ، والديك ، أخوتك ، وأطفالك ..
قدم هديه لشريك حياتك وعبر له عن حبك..
وزر صديقك دائماً وأسأل عنه..

أستقطع بعض الوقت لفحوصاتك الطبية الدورية..

وثق دائما بأنه سيكون هناك وقت كافي للأشياء الأخرى .......

ودائماً ..
أهتم بكرات الجولف أولاً ..
فهي الأشياء التي تستحق حقاً الاهتمام ..

حدد أولوياتك ..

فالبقية مجرد >>> رمل..

وحين انتهى البروفيسور من حديثه..
رفع أحد التلاميذ يده قائلاً:
أنك لم تبين لنا ما تمثله القهوة ؟

(( فابتسم )) البروفيسور وقال :

أنا سعيد لأنك سألت ..

أضفت القهوة فقط لأوضح لكم..
بأنه مهما كانت حياتك مليئة .......
فسيبقى هناك دائماً مساحه..

نجاح أول جراحة لزرع الأمعاء الغليظة والدقيقة في ألمانيا

توبنغن (ألمانيا) - "القدس"، د ب أ - نجح فريق أطباء بألمانيا في إجراء أول جراحة لزراعة الأمعاء الغليظة والدقيقة فى البلاد لطفلة

والنصف من عمرها. في الثالثة

وذكر فريق الأطباء في مدينة توبنغن جنوبي ألمانيا اليوم الأربعاء أن حالة الطفلة (ليني) أصبحت طيبة بعد مرور ثلاثة أشهر على عملية الزرع وأضاف الأطباء أن الطفلة بدأت تتعود على تناول الطعام والشراب بعد أن كانت تعتمد بشكل كامل منذ ميلادها

وقال الطبيب اكهارد شتورم إن الطفلة ليني تعشق تناول الزبد بدون خبز مؤكدا تحسن حالتها بشكل كبير.

الجدير بالذكر أن أعدادا تتراوح بين 20 و 50 طفلا يحتاجون في الوقت الحالي بألمانيا إلى جراحة لزرع الأمعاء وسط آمال بتكرار مثل هذه العمليات النادرة في ألمانيا بدلا من ارسال المرضى الألمان إلى انجلترا وفرنسا لإجراء مثل هذه الجراحة.
